Victims with disabilities must be at the centre of the EU victims’ rights strategy: join the EU public consultation!

The European Disability Forum (EDF) is calling for victims with disabilities to be placed at the heart of the European Union’s strategy on victims’ rights. In a recent announcement dated 30 September 2026, EDF encourages disabled people and their allies to take part in the EU’s public consultation aimed at shaping policies that better protect and support victims within this community.

A Call for Inclusive Victims’ Rights

Victims with disabilities often face additional barriers and challenges when seeking justice and support. These can include inaccessible services, communication difficulties, and discrimination. EDF highlights the need for the EU’s victims’ rights strategy to recognise and address these issues to ensure that all victims receive equal protection and assistance.

The current consultation offers a vital opportunity for individuals with lived experience, or those working in the sector, to influence the development of policies that will have a direct impact on their safety, access to justice, and well-being.

Why This Matters

Ensuring that victims with disabilities are central to the EU’s approach means recognising their specific vulnerabilities and rights. It promotes equal access to tailored support services and legal remedies, which are essential for recovery and empowerment.

EDF’s campaign reflects a broader commitment to human rights and inclusion within European institutions and civil society. This inclusive strategy holds the promise of making systems more responsive and effective for all victims, regardless of their abilities.

How to Get Involved

Disabled people, advocates, and organisations across Europe are invited to participate in the public consultation. Engaging in this process allows stakeholders to share their experiences and recommendations, influencing policies at the EU level.

For more information and to join the consultation, visit the European Disability Forum’s website. Together, we can work towards a future where the voices of victims with disabilities are heard and protected.
